Description

Lost River, West Virginia is a special place. It is situated between the George Washington National Forest, the Lost River State Park, and miles upon miles of pastoral country roads and farmsteads. The Lost River area attracts visitors who love the outdoors and enjoy hiking, biking, horseback riding, canoeing, fishing, skiing (Massanutten, Canaan Valley, Bryce Resort, and Snowshoe), and geo-catching. It's also a popular destination for antiquing and taking in Appalachian culture through the local arts and crafts scene (Lost River Artisans Cooperative and Museum). This property is central to it all, and the perfect weekend retreat from Washington, DC (2 hours), Baltimore, MD (3 hours), Richmond, VA (3 1/2 hours) or Philadelphia (5 hours)! For the foodies: The owner loves to bake and cook, so the kitchen is well-stocked with cookware, spices, and basic ingredients (flour, sugar, baking powder, etc.). Spend the night in with friends or family enjoying dinner by the fireplace, or outside grilling and dining in the screened porch to nature's chorus of crickets and other creatures that inhabit the area. Or, spend the night out enjoying a gourmet meal at the Guest House at Lost River or Lost River Brewery. The Lost River Grill is also a popular spot for drinks and live entertainment. Lunch at the General Store is highly recommended (the BBQ pork sandwich is a favorite!). For the adventurous, the Lost River area has a lot to offer! If you're a triathlete, take advantage of the world-class rural roads for running and biking, and Trout Pond for open-water swims. Lost River is also a hiker's paradise--Big Schloss (George Washington National Forest) and Cranny Crow (Lost River State Park) are two popular favorites. Lost River is also a great launching site for nearby canoe and tube float trips. The old timber roads on the mountain (immediately accessible from the property) make for some spectacular mountain biking and snowshoeing (2 pairs of snowshoes are available for complimentary use). Winter in Lost River is spectacular for both nesters and adventurers! Hit the slopes of Bryce, Massanutten, Canaan Valley and Snowshoe (a little more distant, but close enough to return home in time for a crockpot dinner). For the sightseers and shoppers, no visit to Lost River is complete without a visit to the Lost Rivers Artisans Cooperative and Museum (the owner's hand-screened t-shirts are among the many locally crafted items for sale). For the Yogis, grab your mat because Lost River is a perfect place for practice, and the Yoga Barn (offering regular morning classes throughout the Spring, Summer & Fall) is right down the mountain! For the homebodies, this property is also for you. Grab a beer and chill in the hammock with a book. Settle on the sofa with a movie or download from Apple TV. Lounge on the deck, taking in the gorgeous views, birds and other wildlife (deer, black bear, wild turkeys, squirrels, fox...) . Grab the cribbage board or cornhole boards. Or do absolutely nothing! So many options...
