Description
The River Guest House, one of several historic log cabins, at the Woods Landing Resort, is nestled in the cottonwoods, right on the bank of the Big Laramie River. This cozy cabin offers three bedrooms, one bath, newly remodeled (2011) full kitchen with cooking utensils and dishes, laundry room, and a large mudroom. The cabin is heated with a forced air furnace, along with a woodstove. The Big Laramie River is right out the back door and Jelm Mountain is across the road. Sit out on the front porch and watch the mule deer wander by, along with an occasional moose, elk, bobcat, coyote, or black bear. Mountain biking and hiking trails start on our property and head west, up the hill to join up with miles of trails and roads, in the Medicine Bow National Forest. The Woods Landing Resort is a historic roadside retreat located at the base of the Medicine Bow Mountains, approximately 27 miles southwest of Laramie, Wyoming. Originally a saloon built by Colonel Samuel Wood in 1883, Woods Landing became a regular stop for lumberjacks, freighters and stage drivers because it was at the intersection of three roadways. In 1932, the owners built a dancehall and a few cabins for vacationers, including the River Guest House. The dancehall was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. Today the Woods Landing Resort offers a full service restaurant, bar and dancehall, as well as a general store, post office, and cabins. The bar and dancehall is a regular meeting place for area ranchers and dudes, who come from the entire Big Laramie River valley, to enjoy our Saturday night dances. The café serves up the best burgers, shakes, and pie in the Valley. Besides the River Guest House, other lodging at the Woods Landing Resort includes a new luxury log cabin duplex, six rustic log cabins, and 10 recreational vehicle spaces. In all, we can sleep about 36 people, in addition to recreational vehicle spaces so we are a perfect venue for family reunions, weddings, and just plain fun. During the summer months, you can bird-watch, raft or fly fish on the river or on one of the numerous plains and mountain lakes, within 10 miles of Woods Landing. Lake Hattie is a favorite lake for windsurfing in the summer and ice-fishing in the winter. You can hike or bike right from your cabin or drive to one of many trailheads, within a 10-mile radius of the resort. There are also hundreds of miles of ATV roads close by. Hunting for elk and mule deer is a favorite part-time in the fall. During the winter months, there are miles and miles of groomed snowmobile and cross-country ski trails, just a few miles up the road. Laramie, home of the University of Wyoming, is only a short half hour drive from Woods Landing. Visit the many art galleries, museums, or the Territorial Park during an outing to town.
