Description

2BR/2BA + den. 1980 ranch-style home up in Cove of Cathedral Canyon, a stone's throw from Palm Springs, California. Cathedral City's Cove, long known for its bohemian, independent residents and style, and its eclectic mix of mid century architecture is next door to Palm Springs, a short 5 minutes' drive away. The house is 10 minutes from Palm Springs International Airport, with easy access. The house sits on a quarter-acre lot, with a backyard view, overlooking the floor of the Coachella Valley and the surrounding mountains. The Cove is away from the main road and above the lights of Palm Springs on the valley floor, so the neighborhood is still, peaceful, quiet, and at night, the stars put on a breath-taking display. Why is the rent so cheap? We are still making the house into 'our kind of home,' so we are still making changes now and then. There is NO scaffolding. There are NO unpainted walls. There is NO construction dust. There is NO exposed wiring. There are NO do-it-yourself holes bashed in the walls. We have simply not updated the whole house. Everything works. It's clean. The kitchen appliances work just fine. The toilets, baths, and showers all work just fine -- although admittedly, the bathrooms are a designer's nightmare. There's great water pressure. The kitchen cabinets have been resurfaced. There is newly-laid Italian tile in the living and dining rooms. There are newly-laid wood floors in the hallway and bedrooms. The garden has been landscaped and is a water-conserving desert environment with cactii and fully mature palms. The front yard is a desert landscape with tall palm trees and a large olive tree. There is a small jacuzzi in the back yard; the landscaping is desert-toned decomposed granite, with cacti, small lantana shrubs, and a number of olive, fig, citrus, and palm trees. For a reason we do not yet understand clearly, little hummingbirds seem to like nesting in the fig tree in the back and in the three citrus trees at the side of the house. This means you'll be seeing hummingbirds hovering around the trees, the lantanas, and the hibiscus bush. We are working with our gardener to plant one or two more hummingbird-friendly bushes. It's kind of nice having the hummingbirds consider our yard a safe place to nest! The house has been furnished with a tasteful mix of contemporary and antique and many pieces of artwork. Because we wish to rent the house for at least part of the Palm Springs 'Season,' we are offering the house at a rate lower than the rates you would pay for the overly-produced, Dynasty-style luxuries in many homes in the Palm Springs area. That is why the rent is cheap. You have our assurance that the place is perfectly fit for a stay of a month or two. Please feel free to contact us, and we would be glad to talk to you about the house, the neighborhood, the region, the rental details.
