Read our reviews! 'The Lotus' is a Jewel in amongst the green... Our guests love this unique vacation rental set in a quarter acre lush tropical garden right in the heart of Downtown Hilo. Wake to the sound of birds and enjoy the seclusion of our private walled compound. Our 'Lotus' vacation cottage is raised to the second story level and out of view of the street. Several old store fronts provide a barrier to the main street on which this is located. Once you step outside our red bamboo gate and onto the street however, you will love the convenience of being able to walk to shops,movies, restaurants, galleries and more. The Farmer's Market is one block away and each day there fresh tropical fruits and vegetables are for sale. If your taste is for old homes and places with a sense of history then you will love our little rental. This accommodation is best described as '..An exotic Vacation Rental for the budget traveler.' There is no TV or microwave and no air-conditioning so we have appeal for those wanting to enjoy a simple tropical home with just the basics. Our guests tell us this makes a romantic couples retreat and a place for a great family vacatiion. The Lotus is a refurbished traditional Hawaii-style 'Cane houseâ built in the heyday of the Sugar Plantations. We painted it some bright colors and gave it a few upgrades to make your stay comfortable. The home features bamboo floors, an open plan kitchen and living area as well as charming features of an old home. The shower is down a private set of covered stairs and is decorated in 'Bali Style' with stone tiles, loads of plants and orchids, air and natural light. Our close proximity to the bay means that the home is cooled by sea breezes. Ceiling fans in the living area and bedroom will ensure your comfort. In the master bedroom, the mattress is a pillow-top queen sized bed to ensure a great night's sleep. The other bedroom offers a queen sized bed and in the third bedroom there is a single bed. A fold out futon bed suitable for a child can be made available. Our couch also folds out to a full sized bed. Up to 6 people can be accommodated in 'The Lotus' (or more including children). At one time this property was like many of the Sugar Cane 'camps' on this island with 6 houses houses on the property. We presently have two refurbished houses for guest accommodation. There another two houses in the rear of the property not currently in use. The 'Sugar Shack' next door is another refurbished cane house that is also a vacation rental. Our two vacation homes on the property can accommodate parties of up to 14 guests and so ours makes an ideal venue for a wedding, tour group, seminar or other small group event. As your hosts, we have tried to think of your needs. Our goal is for our guests to relax and enjoy their visit to our island. Upon check in our guests find fresh flowers and fruit in our rental. Beach towels are provided. This vacation spend less time in the car! Come and stay with us for a relaxed pace of life and an exotic tropical experience with plenty of beauty and good hospitality.
