Enjoy a trip across the sound to experience uninhabited beaches with roaming wild ponies during the day and sink into adirondack chairs to view the sunset over Beaufort in the evening. Whether you're seeking solitude or a launching point for Outer Banks adventures, Harkers Island provides the benefits of a central location while being tucked away off the beaten path. Beaufort is the destination of boaters, historians and memorable family getaways. Shopping, dining and leisurely strolls down the docks in this old Southern harbor town are only 20 minutes away by car or 10 minutes by boat. Atlantic Beach and Morehead City are 25 minutes away by car and boast attractions including a new aquarium, museums, shops and unique dining experiences. The Harkers Island home has beautiful decor, new decks and a hammock underneath for taking a leisurely nap after swimming in the sound. Cook a fresh catch of seafood or shellfish in the beautifully tiled kitchen overlooking three sides of water off of the great room. Guests may bring their own boat for tie up in the boat slip on the pier. The open waters and constant breeze create ideal conditions for sailing. The island is small but has a few restaurants and is perfect for cycling and walking. Many local ferries are eager to take you across the Sound to Shackleford Banks or South Core Island. Guest may also drive to the Cedar Island ferry, one hour away, and take a beautiful, scenic two hour ferry ride to famous Ocracoke Island on the Outer Banks, where they may rent bikes and explore the Outer Banks for the day and be home for early bedtime that night! The house has been personal property since it was purchased eight years ago, with very little rental hours due the owners leaving it open for family use. There are three bedrooms with two full sized baths and a wonderful outdoor shower.
